Cady
Mountains - Mojave Desert, CA
Of all the places my family and I like to visited
and camp in the Mojave Desert, the Cady Mountains is by far one of
our favorites. Located about 40 miles east of Barstow, CA., this amazingly
colorful and alien landscape lies between the I-15 and the I-40 on
BLM land. Over the years, we have explored miles and miles of this
mountain range by foot and by Jeep and yet, we still feel like we've
only scratched the surface of discovering all the wonderful treasures
this place has to offer.
Some of the treasures we have found include a rock we affectionately
call "Anvil Rock" and a spectacular dry falls that has cut
through the mountain side creating a slot canyon over 100 feet high.
However, I think the one thing everyone notices right away, even from
a far is the beautiful greens, reds, purples and orange colors that
make up this fantastic mountain range.
Unfortunatly, on my last trip out to this part of the Mojave (10/09/04),
I discovered many of the routes so familiar to us have now been blocked
and posted with "Route Closed" or "Wilderness Study
Area" pop-sickle stick signs. I can't even begin to tell you
how much this pisses me off. Needless to say, the photos below and
this article have been provided for you to see what you can no longer
see for yourself.
Below are pics from our trip. Click on the thumbnail images to see
